these have clarity my pre amp is an evo 400 prima luna
in position 1 these valves are ruthless picking apart the music
i have gold lions behind them
the power amp has 6550's with a lot of warm valve sound
matched together this way i get fantastic sound

Sparkle and clarity plus

Well changed the input tube on the Auris Nirvana today. I wasn't expecting a great change in sound quality, but I was amazed. I'd corresponded with Neil at The Valve Store and he recommended I try a 1970s military GE long Plate 8514 input tube equivalent to the ecc82 which he had in stock (you can see it at 5814 12AU7 ECC82 Stereo Audio Valves Amp Tubes Australia New Zealand (thevalvestore.com.au). I mentioned I'd love a little more sparkle in the treble... I certainly got it, combined with a certain clarity and added texture.



I have to say I was happy with the JJECC82...  but the GE 8514 is night and day more to my taste, like a veil over the treble being removed. 



Don't believe I lost any bass, although I do think it may have "cleaned up" a bit, with some more texture. Dead quite too!


I wouldn't have believed a great amp like the Auris Nirvana could be improved so significantly.
